Monster Puppet with Free Pattern
Right at the end of summer, we had some of my nieces and their moms come over for a craft day. We made these super-fancy monster hand puppets. Purple was the only color of felt I had on hand so that’s why we went with monsters. You really could use the pattern as a base for any kind of hand puppet: animal, creature, or person.
How To & Pattern:
Download the pattern and print it. Cut out two, one mirror image, fromξyour choice of felt. Sew along the top and arms using 1/4″ seam allowance remembering to back-stitch at the beginning and end. Leave the bottom open. For added monster furriness, trim the seam allowance with pinking sheers.
We used hot glue to hold on the decorations because first, it’s the fastest, and second, we had three moms here to help. You can also use Elmer’s glue for a more kid-friendly version.
Get out some extra felt, buttons, googly eyes, feathers, ribbon, etc and let the kids go to town using their imaginations to whip up an amazing monster. It’s a great way to declutter your craft room, too!
It’s so fun to see all the different ideas the kids would come up with. My daughter braided some yarn for her puppet’s hair. My son made his into a three-eyed monster but didn’t want to be the only boy in the photos. My niece used ribbon and some buttons to make a necklace. What did your kids come up with?
